College Preparatory Theory

This class is open to high school students who are planning to major or minor in music at college, and to students who wish to become better musicians. The course will teach music theory, ear training, music appreciation, and other subjects requested by the students. Music theory can be one of the most difficult hurdles for college students, this course will send you off to college much better prepared and make your beginning college experience much more enjoyable.

Music Therapy

Music therapy is the prescribed use of music and musical interventions in order to restore, maintain, and improve emotional, physical, physiological, and spiritual health and well-being. Music is the primary therapeutic tool. Using music to establish a trusting relationship, the music therapist then works to improve the student’s physical and mental functioning through carefully structured activities. Examples can include singing, listening, playing instruments, composition, moving to music, and music and imagery exercises. You do not need to know anything about music to benefit from music therapy. Our music therapists work with a wide variety of people including children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly with mental health needs, developmental and learning disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease and other aging related conditions, substance abuse problems, brain injuries, physical disabilities, and acute and chronic pain. Healthy individuals can use music for stress reduction via active music making, such as drumming, as well as passive listening for relaxation. Music is often a vital support for physical exercise. Music therapy can also be used to assist labor and delivery. Music therapy groups can help with the grieving process or with life changes.

Vibrational Healing

Vibrational Healing draws on music, science, metaphysics, ancient traditions, and both Eastern and Western medicine. Healing through vibration brings back the memory of health using the different modalities of vibration – electromagnetic, light, sound, and feeling. The first workshop, Introduction to Vibrational Healing, is open to anyone with an interest in learning the healing qualities of music.

Clear, Balance, and Energize Your Chakras will be offered as the second workshop on Vibrational Healing. You will learn about chakras, where they are and how to use them to help yourself and others. You will also learn about tuning forks – how they work and how they can quickly and permanently clear, balance, and energize your chakras, as well as heal physical problems caused by energy blocks.

Other workshops on Vibrational Healing will be presented depending on the interest of participants. Workshops will be taught by Sister Kay Rundquist. For more information on costs, times, and dates, please contact the Music Center.
