ST. FRANCIS STRING ORCHESTRA PROGRAM
Saint Francis Music Center is proud to sponsor several opportunities for students and adults from the community to perform in a string orchestra. The Saint Francis Preparatory Orchestra is for young students with one or two years of private lessons and the ability to read notes who are ready for an ensemble experience. Students learn the basic skills necessary for successful orchestral playing. The focus is on intonation and tone quality, bowing styles and patterns, reading key and time signatures, and counting rhythms. The group will do mostly unison and canon playing. Readiness is determined at the discretion of the director and other string faculty.
The Saint Francis Concert Orchestra is for more experienced players who have accomplished the skill set of the preparatory group and are ready for a more challenging experience. Though still educational in nature, this orchestra will focus on rehearsing and performing standard string repertoire at the intermediate to advanced level. Participants are expected to spend individual practice time on their music between rehearsals and come to rehearsals prepared to turn notes on the page into beautifully expressive music.
The Saint Francis Chamber Orchestra is an opportunity for the most advanced high school students to perform small ensemble repertoire at a higher level. These members are chosen at the discretion of the director.
All orchestras are directed by Bobbi French and perform at St. Francis Sacred Heart Chapel twice a year. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings, scheduled as follows: Preparatory Orchestra 6-6:45, Concert Orchestra 7-8, and Chamber Orchestra 8-8:30.
Orchestra start day is September 13, 2018.
COLLABORATION WITH HEARTLAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
St. Francis Concert Orchestra is pleased to continue our collaboration with the Heartland Symphony Orchestra, a 50-piece volunteer, nonprofit, community orchestra located in and serving the central Minnesota area of Brainerd, Little Falls, and the surrounding rural communities. As part of its commitment to community service and music education, HSO is partnering with St. Francis to mutually develop our shared audience and enrich the lives of our players by bringing young musicians together with experienced musicians in rehearsal and performance. We look forward to sharing the stage and presenting our listeners with an increasingly rich string sound. For more information about this exciting and promising partnership, please contact the music director of either orchestra at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
